Samos - 02 July 2020
Explore further afield and discover the beauty of this stunning and historical Greek Island
During Biking Week, the emphasis is on exploring further on two wheels!
There is something for everyone, with harder rides usually leaving early in the morning to avoid the heat of the day and gentler rides for late afternoon. Many of our mountain bikes will be brand new for 2019, like the Whyte 605 which is ready for anything Samos can throw at it.
Who is leading the week?
"Hi my name is Paul and I am joining the team to show you around some of the biking trails in Samos this season.
Though born in Somerset I now come from the Forest of Dean area and was introduced to downhill, enduro and jump biking a few years ago after being invited by a group of friends to join them on our local trails. I quickly became passionate about the sport and would take any part-time job offered to continually upgrade my bikes. Now a qualified electrician this is somewhat easier!
I am currently in Reberty for the ski season taking some time out of my career to allow God to use the skills He has given me to serve Him in this beautiful location; I am very much looking forward to spending the summer with Richmond too.
Don’t be put off by the thought of hours in the saddle, we will have regular stops for refuelling, creation appreciation and perhaps a quick dip in the sea!
So whether you are bringing your own bike or using one of ours, you can be sure that there will be rides to suit all abilities!"
Who is this week aimed at?
For those wanting a bit of adventure and the opportunity to get to some places that are best accessed by bike, the morning is a great time to try some routes of around 20-30km before the sun is too strong. There are routes such as a round trip of approximately 30km from the Zefiros Beach Hotel to Possidonio on the South East corner of the island. A refreshing drink in a taverna overlooking a small sheltered harbour is your reward after tackling a hilly coastline track with fantastic views of the Turkish National Park mountains to the South. Other mornings may involve more challenging but slightly shorter routes of around 12km.
The afternoon is the perfect time to try some gentler routes of around 6-10km at a more relaxed pace. For an enjoyable ride in the late afternoon, there is a picturesque route to a nearby beach for a swim and a drink on a mostly flat round trip of just 8km. If a mountain bike is not appealing, we have some hybrid bikes which are perfect for local trips.
We have a range of Whyte bikes in different sizes. Most are mountain bikes with front suspension, plus there are some hybrid bikes for those mostly sticking to road cycling but with the option of venturing onto dirt tracks. All our bikes are equipped with high-grade puncture resistant tyres, however, in the unlikely event you do get caught out, they all have repair kits too. Bike hire and helmets are included in the holiday cost, though if you have your own, you are welcome to bring them.
Breakfast and dinner at the hotel are included (as with every Richmond holiday), so you just need to buy your lunch. Return flights and transfers are also included in the price.
As with all our themed weeks, you are able to take part in as much or as little as you would like so if you only wish to join on the shorter trips, that’s no problem! Our watersports and other activities will be running as normal so you can choose your adventure or just sit with a book and enjoy some well earned time off!
